If you don't already possess an antique gown, but know that it is the style for you and are ready to go searching for the perfect dress, first think about what antique era is the right fit for you. You can find dresses from the early 1900's to as late as the 1970's if that is the "antique" look you are going for. Once you have begun your search, inspect your dress to make sure it is right for you. Altering an antique dress can be tricky, if the fit is off or the fabric is stain or torn, it may be difficult to repair. Especially if you are purchasing a dress online, pay close attention to the size, as vintage sizes are not the same as modern ones. If you have your heart set on the dress, you can find a custom dress designer or seamstress who may be able to recreate the dress, or you can have pieces of this antique dress added into a newer version.
Many bridal gown shops carry dresses that are a nod to another time period. If you can't find a dress that is actually from the era you want, you may be able to find the perfect dress that is inspired from it. This will make it much easier to have it fit perfectly to your body and there will be less worries and hassles for you too look beautiful on your day.
Once you do have your antique dress, pay attention to the other details of the era, jewelry, make-up, hair, and shoes. When you walk down the aisle, your guests will feel as though they have been transcended to another time.
